11 suspects arrested after house robbers stole car with tracking device

Eleven suspects are expected in court on Thursday after they were tracked down and arrested by police following a house robbery incident that occurred at a house in Ikamvelihle, in the Motherwell area of Port Elizabeth.

According to police spokesman, Captain Andre Beetge, there were four occupants at the house were the robbery occurred on Tuesday night.

The suspects allegedly fled with a blue Hyundai Getz, bank cards, money, a laptop and two cell phones.

Captain Beetge said that the car tracking device is what led to the arrest of the eleven.

“The tracking device in the vehicle was activated and SAPS K9 Unit swiftly located the vehicle just before midnight. It was found parked inside a locked premises on the corner of Hartman and Smith Street, in Central," he described.

“With the assistance of SAPS Flying Squad and the Humewood police, the vehicle was recovered and the premises searched.

"Eleven male suspects, between the ages of 21 to 34 years old, were arrested and all the stolen property of the house robbery were recovered.”

He said that the suspects will be appearing before the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property.

"The suspects will also be profiled and their linking investigated in terms of the house robbery.”
