Nelmari Oosthuysen, the owner of this delightful business, says, “Ingenious creativity opens the door to authentic positivity. At A Peace of Art the word ‘peace’ is more than just another monophonic attempt at creativity or a movement or activism...It rather becomes part of our reality and the choice to make it part of a lifestyle, which includes balance and an understanding of yourself and others and the characteristics of respect, justice and goodwill.”

Like many of the homes that have been converted into businesses in Walmer, A Peace of Arts’ premises has many rooms and each room holds a separate surprise. They are well stocked with the tools and items needed for mosaics, scrapbooking, bead work, decoupage, repousse, paper crafts, paper clay, wiring, pewter and much, much more.

“Challenged by life’s difficulties we all need time out. We strive to bring our clients a little ‘peace’ and a tranquil environment to get away from everyday problems. Bring your troubles and let us mix them with paint and send you home with a new routine for coping with the stress of everyday life,” adds Nelmari.

Since opening its doors in 2005, this crafts and arts shop has the tools, literally and figuratively, needed to make people realise their endless potential. People not only learn the techniques of different craft and art forms but also life skills, which they can apply to other areas of their lives.

From kiddies programs to an understanding of the deeper self through the making of a craft or an art work, A Peace of Art has something for everybody.

A great venue for a kids party, A Peace of Art offers a variety of personalised and creative birthday activities for boys and girls. Their party times are from 10:00 – 12:00 or 14:00 – 16:00 week days and from 10:00 – 12:00 on Saturday mornings.

In addition to the well-stocked shop and the party venue, Nelmari has established Peace@Heart, the therapeutic and developmental use of the creative process, within a professional relationship, to help people, who have experienced trauma or find life challenging.

“Through creating art and reflecting on the artistic processes, people can increase awareness of themselves and others, cope with stress and traumatic experiences, enhance their cognitive abilities, develop personal leadership and enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of simply making a beautiful product,” concludes Nelmari.
