SA water polo schools’ sides slump at Tri-Nations Schools Water Polo Series

The South African schools boys’ and girls’ water polo sides took part in the Tri-Nations Schools Water Polo Series at the National Aquatic Centre in Auckland, which took place from December 19th until December 22nd.

In both the boys and girls codes, South Africa seemingly slumped against their Trans-Tasman rivals of Australia and New Zealand. However, in the boys’ division South Africa weren’t the wooden spoon contenders, as a New Zealand ‘A’ side took part and had lost all their encounters retrospectively.

In the same boys division, South Africa also did manage to dig deep to beat New Zealand 10-8 in their second match-up, for which the New Zealanders ended up winning the Tri-Nations Cup with the aforementioned game being the only loss they suffered.

South Africa’s boys had a total win tally of three wins out of six, with that one win against New Zealand and both against New Zealand ‘A’. They lost both games against Australia and the first to New Zealand.

In the girls’ league, New Zealand were firm Tri-Nation victors after winning all of their games convincingly, with exception to the final Trans-Tasman encounter which they drew to Australia.

The South African girls’ side only won one of their five games, with their solitude win coming against Australia 8-7 in their first match-up. They ended up playing Australia three times and New Zealand twice.

New Zealand won both the Tri-Nations Water Polo Series, as well as the Trans-Tasman Series in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions respectively. South Africa came third in both the boys’ and girls’ Tri-Nations tournaments.

South Africa boys results in the Tri-Nations Series:

Lost to Australia 14-10, beat NZ ‘A’ 19-12, lost to NZ 9-5, beat NZ 10-8, lost to Australia 15-14 and beat NZ ‘A’ 25-13.

South Africa girls results in the Tri Nations Series:
