Cricket SA Under-19 Cubs Week commences following SA Schools selection

Following the Under-19 Khaya Majola Coca-Cola Cricket Week, a South African schools XI, as well as a South African Colts XI were chosen amidst the talent that was exposed during the respective U19 week.

The two sides were then put up to face each other, before the commencing of the U19 CSA Cubs Week, which begins on the 4th January. A notable distinguish from the Khaya Majola week being that the Cubs Week is the collaboration of all the cricketing unions in South Africa, and not just the different provinces and districts in the country.

The game between SA Schools and SA Colts was held at the Mangaung Oval, in Bloemfontein, on December 21st in a 50-over match. The game ended as a mismatch with the Colts XI batting first and going all out for just 85 and the SA Schools side successfully chasing the score in the 14th over for the loss of four wickets.

On a seemingly bowler’s wicket, credit on the day must be given to Ruan de Swardt of the SA Schools for 5/13 bowling figures and Mihlali Mpongwana of the SA Colts for 3/16 figures. Since there was little to mention with the bat, Jesse Christensen leant the most when he ascertained that SA Schools would reach the breeze of a total with his score of 32.

The Cubs Week, a more prestigious playing ground for recognizing young talent, will take place in Stellenbosh from the 4th until the 8th January.

Opening Cub Week fixtures (4th January):

Dolphins vs. Knights; Lions vs. SA U17 Invitation XI; Cobras vs. Zimbabwe and Titans vs. Warriors.
