13-year-old arrested for possession of dagga in Grahamstown

Police in Riebeeck East on Tuesday arrested three male suspects, aged between 13 and 59 years old, for possession of dagga in Grahamstown.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, members of the Riebeeck East police were on patrol along the Komadagga Road when they arrested a 13-year-old boy for possession of dagga.

“The youngster revealed where he got the several grams of dagga, which was wrapped into bompies from, to the police officer and further furnished them with the details of the address,” said Captain Govender.

She added that the officers proceeded to the said house and seized 41 bompies of dagga and arrested a 59-year-old male for dealing in dagga.  

The juvenile was later released into his parents’ custody on condition that they bring him to the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court this week where both suspects will be appearing on their respective charges.

In an unrelated incident, police also arrested a 37-year-old male for possession of dagga while conducting vehicle checkpoint on the N2 highway in Grahamstown.

According to the police, members of the Grahamstown Highway Patrol together with officers from Provincial traffic pulled over an Avanza and searched it.

“On checking and searching the vehicle they discovered two plastic bags containing dagga that were wrapped in a bag inside a blanket placed in the boot. It weighed 5,7 kg valued at R12 825,” said Captain Govender.

She added that police arrested the suspect from Joubertina for possession of dagga.

The suspect will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court this week
