Five suspected gangsters arrested in a space of 24hrs for attempted murder
Five suspects, aged between 16 and 36 years, are expected in court soon after they were arrested by Port Elizabeth police on Wednesday and Thursday for gang-related shootings in the city's Northern Areas.
"The Operational Command Centre's (OCC) efforts in ensuring that policing is conducted with the aim of preventing and combating crime in areas that are experiencing high crime levels prove to be successful," police said.
"In between Wednesday and Thursday, five suspects were arrested for gang related shootings allegedly committed in the Bethelsdorp and Gelvandale areas.
"The arrests were effected by the various police units including Public Order Policing (POP), Crime Combating Unit, Visible Gang Intervention Team and the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit performing duties from the Mount Road Cluster Operational Command Centre."
According to the police, in two cases, two suspects were arrested immediately after the alleged commission of a crime, which took place on Wednesday in the Bethelsdorp area.
"All five suspects were arrested for attempted murder cases."
