Police meet King Williams Town transport stakeholders after commuters intimidated

The King Williams Town Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga, together with the King Williams Town Station Commander chaired a meeting with all transport industry stakeholders at the Department of Transport on Friday.

According to police spokesperson, Brig Marinda Mills, the meeting was as a result of taxi violence, which erupted in King Williams Town railway station recently where passengers were deprived to use the bus services of their own choice by King Williams Town Bus Association and taxi associations.

"It was resolved that there will be no intimidation that will take place again," she said.

"The complaints they have against the municipality and Transport Department will be attended to in a follow-up meeting scheduled for 20/07/2017.

"The Cluster Commander has also made an undertaking that joint operations will be conducted on a regular basis to ensure compliance with their permit conditions."

Brig Mills said that currently the situation is back to normal and cluster police and Public Order Police are monitoring the situation.
