Dutywa man arrested for early morning murder of his wife
A 28-year-old man has been arrested by Dutywa police for the alleged murder of his 26-year-old wife early on Wednesday morning.
"The murder was committed after midnight at Mpuku Location, Chizela Village, in Dutywa," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.
"The deceased suffered multiple upper body injuries. The motive for the murder is not clear at this point in time."
Eastern Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, said that this is another shocking and senseless case "where a defenceless woman was murdered".
"It must be emphasized that the safety of women and children is a top priority of for the Eastern Cape police. The non-stop investigation of such cases is in line with our Back to Basics policing approach which requires effective and responsive investigation of crime utilizing all resources at our disposal to ensure that offenders are brought to book to face the consequences of their ruthless deeds,” said Lt Gen Ntshinga.
Captain Manatha said that violence committed against women and children is in the forefront "of our fight against crime and offendsers can expect that our investigators will pursue every avenue to ensure their conviction".
The deceased cannot be identified until her next are informed of her murder.
The suspect will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate's Court on Friday.
