Armed robbers flee with cash at KwaMagxaki Engen garage - third incident since Wednesday

The work of the same gang? Those are some of the questions that Port Elizabeth police are trying to answer as another petrol station, the third one this week, was robbed by armed men on Friday morning.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, three men, armed with firearms, allegedly entered the KwaMagxaki Engen  garage and demanded access to the service station's safe.

They however failed to open the safe and still managed flee in a white Nissan bakkie with an undisclosed amount of cash from the cashiers.

No one was injured in the robbery.

At the time of publishing, he said police were still combing the scene for clues.

On Thursday morning, six armed men pulled off a heist at the Fernglen Caltex petrol station and also made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Meanwhile, police have appealed for leads after a daring drop-safe bombing incident that took place during an armed robbery at a garage in Perseverance on Wednesday afternoon.

It is alleged that eight suspects were seen getting out of a white Quantum Minibus at the Caltex garage in Perseverance before proceeding to rob the garage.

No one was injured.
