Bethelsdorp detectives on Friday appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the body of an unknown murder victim, who was allegedly dumped along the Old Uitenhage Road.

According to police information, on Wednesday afternoon, at about 16:30, a witness was walking on the Old Uitenhage Road in Booysens Park towards Kwanoxolo when he noticed a white Mazda sedan stop ahead of him.

"The driver threw something out of the boot of the car and drove off," said police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"When the witness came closer, he realised that it was a body of an African male.

"The deceased person sustained a gunshot wound to his head. The person then contacted the police."

She said that the deceased is unknown and at the time of his death, he was clad in a long sleeve grey top and a black pair of tights.

"Anyone who can assist police in identifying the deceased or may know about the circumstances of his death is asked to contact D/Capt Kobus Williams on 0828252357," said Col Naidu.

"All information is strictly confidential and callers may remain anonymous."
