'Neglected' Uitenhage and Despatch focus of new development plan

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, on Friday officially opened the revamped Magennis Street, in Uitenhage, as part of a plan to take development to the outlying areas of the municipality.

"We continue to show that the development of our Metro should not be centralised in one town, but be inclusive of areas like Despatch and Uitenhage," said Trollip.

"As part of a long term development plan, we have officially opened the revamped Magennis Street, in Uitenhage and have also handed over 6 trucks which will assist with the maintenance of this road and many others."

The Executive Mayor said that Magennis Street is a major link between KwaNobuhle and the Uitenhage CBD.

"Economic development can only take place if our City's infrastructure is developed and well maintained," he added.

"Both Uitenhage and Despatch will be our focus areas as this administration as they have long been ignored."
