Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle accepts invitation to re-visit China

The Eastern Cape Premier, Phumulo Masualle, on Wednesday accepted an invitation extended to him by the People’s Republic of China Vice-President, Dr LI Yuanchao.

According to the Provincial Government Spokesperson, Sonwabo Mbanabga, the visit was initially scheduled to take place in October 2017, but has been rescheduled for early next year.

He added that on Tuesday, Premier Masualle also met with newly-appointed Ambassador from the People’s Republic of China to South Africa, His Excellency, Lin Songtian.

Mbananga said that Ambassador Songtian is also keen on following up on last year’s discussions between Premier Masualle and Vice-President Yuanchao.

“The focus of the meetings is on the renewal of the bilateral cooperation between the Eastern Cape and Zhejiang Province and establishes a relationship with Guangdong Province,”

He added that the Eastern Cape Provincial Government first visited the Zhejiang Province of China through its Technical Team in 2008, on the occasion of the 10 Years Celebrations of Diplomatic Relations between the Peoples Republic of China and South Africa.

He concluded that the created a platform to deepen this relationship resulting in existing partnerships between the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan and Ningbo (a city in Zhejiang Province) and the partnership between Buffalo City and Jinhua (a city in Zhejiang Province).
