Dutywa tavern owner shot and killed by three armed robbers

Dutywa police are investigating a case of robbery and murder after a 47-year-old tavern owner was shot by two assailants over the weekend.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, it is alleged that three men arrived at the homestead of the 47-year-old man at Pikweni Location, Cungcwini Village, Dutywa, on Saturday, at about 23:00.

"They pretended as if they were there to buy liquor.

"When the tarven owner was about to serve them, one of the suspects drew a firearm and shot  him on his upper body," he described.

"An undisclosed amount of money and cellphone of the tavern owner were also robbed."

Captain Manatha said that the 47-year-old man was rushed to Dutywa Health Centre where he was certified dead on arrival.

"No one has been arrested.

"Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact Dutywa Police @ 047 489 1333 or Crime Stop 08600 10111," he appealed.

"The identity of the deceased is being withheld until all family members are officially informed of his murder."
