The Maluti Regional Court on Tuesday handed a 30-year-old man, Nkosithethile Sithole, a life sentence after it convicted him of raping a 53-year-old woman at Thulang Village, near Maluti, in 2012.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Raphael Motloung, the Maluti Regional Court heard that on the 12th December 2012, at about 19:00, Sithole was walking in the street in Thulang Village when he met the 53-year-old victim.

He then, forcefully, took her to his residence where he raped her repeatedly, the whole night.

“Fortunately for the victim, the accused fell asleep, since he was heavily intoxicated. So, the victim managed to escape and went to the police to report the matter,” said Captain Motloung.

He added that Sithole, who is from Skiti Village, was later arrested and charged with rape.

Captain Motloung further added that, the investigating Officer, Sergeant Sindiswa Ntloko, of the Matatiele Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, has been commended for her diligent work and investigation.
