Car problems? Get an expert opinion at Finn Auto Repairs & Diagnostics

Whether your car just needs an inspection, a tune-up or a major repair, in this economy, it is never a good idea to chance with questionable repair shops. The end result is often a big hole in your pocket or a major catastrophe. Besides, modern cars have also become progressively more complex that a weekend of fiddling under the bonnet won’t identify all future troubles.

Just as you would not visit a dodgy dentist, consulting with a registered, experienced, qualified and professional workshop, who can do the job properly - first time round, ensures you save money in the long-run while keeping your vehicle’s value and quality in tip-top condition.

If you too are looking to avoid future expensive headaches, Port Elizabeth-based Finn Auto Repairs & Diagnostics comes highly recommended.

The company was started by Jack Finn in April 2009, after a seven-year stint in England where he worked on the latest vehicles. Finn actually now has more than 20 years’ experience in the motor industry.

After purchasing a range of modern dealer electronic diagnostic equipment and completing many professional training courses, Finn decided to return to South Africa to a start a workshop, which could offer local drivers the same good and honest service enjoyed by drivers abroad.

Initially situated in Port Elizabeth’s North End, Finn Auto Repairs and Diagnostics relocated to their current premises along First Avenue, Walmer, also in PE, in October 2010. Ironically, Jack spent his first 10 years in the industry at this same workshop before travelling to England.

“From a small workshop in North End, with only three staff members, we have grown into a large, well-organised workshop in Walmer with 17 staff members,” describes Jack.

“We went from one hoist to nine hoists and, even though we had an impressive range of diagnostic equipment and special tooling brought back from the UK, we have continued to increase the range of equipment and tools to ensure that we have advanced along with current vehicle technologies.”

He says that, for their customers’ convenience, Finn Auto Repairs and Diagnostics has become a one-stop-shop that does all repairs, clutches, brakes, gearboxes, engine overhauls, ABS, airbags and engine management faults, repairs and re-gassing of air cons under one roof.

“We have a wide range of machines to flush automatic transmission, cooling system, brake system, clean injectors, on car brake skimming and more, to make sure your vehicle is safe and running at optimum,” Jack adds.

While the market is filled with both professional workshops as well as fly-by-nights looking to make a quick buck from unsuspecting car owners, she says Finn Auto Repairs has managed to distinguish itself as a reputable top-notch repair centre.

“We are not part fitters, if we can repair it, we will. We also do as much as possible in-house to save our customers costs,” he explains.

“Furthermore, we follow dealer standards, ensuring the service schedule is followed and additional checks are done, without charging the dealer prices.  Even though we specialise in certain brands, we do work on all car makes.”

As a guarantee to their customers, Finn Auto Repairs is a member of the Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA) of South Africa.

“MIWA is an organisation that strives to keep their members abreast of the ever-changing repair industry, which ensures that vehicles are repaired to acceptable standards that are designed to make the vehicle last longer, perform better and safely,” Jack describes.

“We are also a 5-Star graded workshop. Grading is based on qualified motor mechanics, of which we have five; soon three more of our mechanics will be qualified as well. It is also based on a list of required tools and equipment – of which we have everything required and more.

“On top of that, we are required to comply to health and safety standards, which creates a safe environment and better conditions for our employees and for the vehicles on our premises.”

As noted, Finn Auto Repairs has endeavoured to build a one-stop-shop for all drivers, whatever badge they may be driving.

“We work on all makes and models, preferably from year 2000.  We specialise in Mercedes, Audi, BMW/Mini and Toyota,” Jack adds.
