Police in Port Elizabeth swiftly arrested three suspects, all in their early 20s, following a house robbery in Motherwell NU9 on Sunday morning.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge: “During the early morning hours of about 03:30am, five sisters aged 16, 11, 4, 2 and 2, were asleep in their home in Nkobongo Street, NU9, Motherwell, when three suspects kicked open the back door and demanded cell phones from the 16-year-old girl while threatening to suffocate her with a pillow.

“The suspects proceeded to take various household items and then fled the scene."

He said that the aunt of the children, who was asleep in a back room of the house woke up due to the children's crying and alerted police to the robbery.

“By 11:00, three suspects were traced and arrested after good follow up work and information received,” Beetge described.

The three suspects will appear in the Motherwell Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
