Willowvale police on Monday arrested a 22-year-old man after he fell asleep after allegedly raping a 29-year-old woman, whom he abducted after attacking her boyfriend.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, it is alleged that the victim was asleep with her boyfriend on Monday, at about 1:00am, at Gojela Location, Qora Village, Willowvale.

"It is alleged that two men, armed with knives, kicked the door of a house where the couple was sleeping. The boyfriend was chased away and the suspect allegedly dragged the victim to his home where the alleged rape took place," he described.

"The suspect fell asleep after raping the victim.

"The victim woke up and went to nearby homestead to alert the community of what happened."

Captain Manatha said that community members went to the homestead of the suspect and found him fast asleep.

"He was caught and handed over to Willowvale police, who arrested him.

"The suspect is expected to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Thursday," he said.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey, thanked the community for their assistance and for not taking the law into their own hands.
