The Bay Ultra is one of only two ultra-distance races taking place in the Eastern Cape and this year Amobia Communications and Body Concept Road Warriors are teaming up in order to bring even more excitement to the event.

“The motivation for Amobia’s involvement is due to one of its founding members, Bruce Gie, who is a committed athlete,” said Nicola Smith, Managing Director of Amobia Communications.

“He has a keen interest in sporting events, and is also a member of Body Concept Road Warriors. It was with this in mind that Amobia felt moved to become the main sponsor of the Bay Ultra Marathon.”

Having been first organised by Eastern Province running legend, Jorrie Jordaan, the race has undergone many changes over the years, from, distance to routes, organisers as well as name changes.

Local salt producer, Swartkops Sea Salt, who manufactures Marina Salt products, agreed to sponsor the race, and for 16 years, it carried the brand name Marina Salt - it is still affectionately referred to by old-time runners as ‘The Marina’.

The race covers three distances, the 50km Ultra, the 21.1km Half, and a 5km race that families can now participate in.

Because of its position in the road running calendar, it is a qualifying event for the Two Oceans Marathon and Comrades Marathon, and is often used by athletes to gauge their training for these internationally known events.

Over the years the race has been won by many famous names including Dmitiri Grishin, Charl Matheus and Donovan Wright, and on the ladies’ side: Helene Joubert, Margie Saunders and Lorna Lumb.

The Bay Ultra will be taking place on 3 February 2018 at Pollock Beach. Entry forms are available here, for more information on the Bay Ultra visit their website at: www.bayultra.co.za.
