SASSA beneficiaries warned to ignore fake social media information

Beneficiaries of social grants from The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), were warned on Friday to ignore messages circling on social media, claiming that they provide stationary and uniforms to school children receiving the Child Support Grant.

Acting national spokesperson for SASSA, Moabi Pitsi, stated that the information going around social media over the past week was fake.

Pitisi stated that the supply of stationary to school children is not mandated by SASSA.

“School uniforms are provided as part of the Social Relief of Distress programme. However, this programme is implemented in terms of the Social Assistance Act, 2004, and all prospective beneficiaries have to meet legislated criteria," said Pitsi.

Pitsi discouraged from sharing the information on social media as it has caused a lot of confusion among the social grant beneficiaries.
