Police welcome harsh sentences handed to two killers

Police have welcomed the sentencing of two men convicted of the murder of a local man, Xolani Mahlinza.

The first accused, Ncedile Makasi (24), was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for murder and 15 years for robbery while the second accused, Musa Mpekula (27), was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 15 years in robbery.

According to the police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, Mahlinza was found wrapped with a cello tape covering his face at his home in Queenstown.

“During the investigation, two suspects were arrested at Welkom and the vehicle that was robbed from deceased was also recovered,” she described

Cluster Commander Queenstown, Major General Funeka Siganga, welcomed the sentence and thanked the investigating officer for his commitment in ensuring that justice is once again served.
