20-year-old Ngqamakhwe man jailed for 18 years for raping teen

A 20-year-old Ngqamakhwe man, Luphiwe Xakwe, will spend the next 18 years behind bars after being sentenced by the Tsomo Regional Court on Tuesday for raping a 13-year-old girl last year.

The incident happened at Dakaneni Location, Khothana Village, in Ngqamakhwe, on the 18th of June 2016.

"It is alleged the victim was walking along the road at Dakaneni Location, Khothana Village, Ngqamakhwe, with the accused," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The accused tricked the unsuspecting young girl to enter his home.

"Once the two were inside the house, the accused drew his knife and threatened the victim. He then raped her and later let her go home."

He said that a case of rape was registered at Ngqamakhwe Police Station and Butterworth FCS Unit took over the investigation.

"The suspect was traced and arrested," said Captain Manatha.

"Violence committed against children is in the forefront of our fight against crime and offenders can expect that our investigators will pursue every avenue to ensure the conviction."
