20 years behind bars for Tsomo man, who raped 7-year-old girl in 2016

The Tsomo Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 30-year-old man, Sive Bakubaku, to undergo 20 years imprisonment for the rape of a seven-year-old girl two years ago.

"The accused was sentenced on Tuesday, at Tsomo," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"It is alleged that the victim was left by her mother on 12 October 2016 as the mother went to church.

"The victim was playing with other children on the date in question, at about 12:00, when the accused called her to his house."

Captain Manatha said that he then rape her.

Sive Bakubaku arrested after the rape

"The rape was committed at Lambatha locality, Nqayi Village, Nqamakwe," he described.

"When the mother of the victim returned from church, the victim broke the silence and told her mother that she had been raped by the accused."

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, has welcomed the sentence.
