Alert Uitenhage police officers catch two housebreaking suspects

Efforts by Uitenhage police to effectively deal with property-related crimes and the efficient deployment of resources, yielded positive results in the early hours of Thursday morning.

"Alert members from SAPS Uitenhage were busy patrolling Mitchell Street, Uitenhage at 02:55, on Thursday morning, when they noticed suspicious movement at the premises of an engineering company," described police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"Police officials acted swiftly and established that a padlock on a burglar door was broken."

She said that the police officers notified the owner of the company and upon entering the premises the police officers spotted two suspects inside the building. 

"Police officers gave chase on foot and arrested both male suspects inside the building."

The two males, ages 26 and 28, are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Friday on a charge of housebreaking and theft at a business premises. 

"Due to the swift response of the police officers no property was taken."   

Uitenhage Police Station Commander, Brigadier Laurence Soekoe, commended the SAPS members on patrol for their observance and for the swift arrest of the suspects.
