2018 Boat Race Festival set to hit Port Alfred on 14 September

The 2018 edition of the Boat Race Festival is set to hit Port Alfred on 14 – 16 September at The Lounge in Pascoe. The event which has been titled, ‘the biggest student festival’ will be the last Boat Race Festival that will be held.

The final edition of the event is set to be the biggest with a musical line-up that includes the festival residents Jaykay, DylTek and Alley. The Saturday line-up will feature Strange Loving, Ryan MurgaKroyd and notable national artist, Crazy White Boy.

The festival attracts students from South Africa’s best universities which include The Nelson Mandela University, Rhodes, The University of Kwa-Zulu, and Wits University amongst other universities. The festival provides a welcome distraction from the stress of university.

The event was founded in 2018 and the first event drew in a crowd of five thousand students who were in need of an event that combined sport and entertainment. The boat race festival was the answer to this problem. One of the founders, Tarquin De Vega who was part of the then Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University rowing team and he was also part of his high school’s rowing team. This passion led to the establishment of the boat race festival.

The attendees of the festival will have access to a camping site during the event. The camping site will operate on a first come, first served basis. There will be food stalls from the Eastern Cape’s most notable food entrepreneurs. Tickets for the event are priced at R200.
