BWA announces the top six women in business in Nelson Mandela Bay

The Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) Port Elizabeth announced the top six women in business in Nelson Mandela Bay at the annual BWA Investec 2018 Regional Business Achievers Awards (RBAA), hosted at the Boardwalk Hotel & Convention Centre on Thursday.

Selected from a pool of 18 incredible finalists, the 2018 category winners are:

  • Emerging entrepreneur:  Melissa Palmer - B & E Conference Centre,
  • Entrepreneur:  Noleen Acton – Kowie Toyota,
  • Social entrepreneur:  Linda van Oudheusden - Missionvale Care Centre,
  • Professional:  Samantha Streak - Port Elizabeth Montessori School,
  • Corporate:  Roseann Shadrach - The SPAR Group, and
  • Government:  Dr. Buyiswa Hlangothi - Nelson Mandela University.

The prestigious competition annually seeks to acknowledge excellence in the business, corporate, professional and social arena. A celebration of women in business in Nelson Mandela Bay, the BWA Investec RBAA recognises businesswomen who have achieved noteworthy milestones in their careers.

The winners in each category are pioneers in their respective fields, coming from diverse industries, but sharing the same drive and passion to be the best in the business.

The BWA Investec RBAA, a flagship event for members of the BWA Port Elizabeth, also showcased all 18 finalists and their companies or organisations on the night. Most BWA Investec RBAA nominees and finalists report great value in taking part in the competition, as it encourages a process of self-discovery and appreciation for the incredible work women in our city do.

The BWA Investec RBAA selection process was audited and overseen by an independent panel of judges. The judges are made up of a broad cross-section of Nelson Mandela Bay leaders who interviewed and selected a winner in each of the six categories.

BWA Port Elizabeth Chair Heather Dutton congratulated the winners in each of the six categories.

“We are exceptionally proud of all the finalists. Thank you to each and every one of you for being amazing ambassadors for our brand throughout the RBAA process. It has been an honour walking this road with you. Congratulations to the six Category Winners! You can be incredibly proud of what you have achieved - shine and enjoy this time!”

Investec Head of Private Bank: Eastern & Southern Cape Jacky Buys said Investec Private Banking is a proud sponsor of the Businesswomen’s Association’s Regional Business Achievers Awards in 2018.

“We’ve been headline sponsors for the past four years and continue to be inspired by both the calibre of women being recognised for their business contribution, as well as by the evolution of the awards annually.”

“Our focus is on building relationships with our clients to empower them in creating, growing, preserving and protecting their wealth.”

“Our congratulations to the extraordinary nominees and finalists being recognised this year.  We are so proud of the work you do and commend your commitment to the Eastern Cape,” said Buys.

Guest speaker for the evening, social entrepreneur Wendy Luhabe, delivered an impactful message to all who celebrated the evening with the finalists and winners.
