Radisson Blu PE ends Mandela Week with Save-A-Pet

As part of their contribution to Mandela Day (July 18), the Radisson Blu Hotel in Port Elizabeth dedicated an entire week to helping local organisations in need for 100 minutes instead of the traditional 67 spent on Mandela Day.

The Radisson started their week by visiting the elderly at the Gelvan Park Frail Care Centre, then visited the Northwood Children’s Hospice on Tuesday, the Happydale Hope Centre on Wednesday, PE Mental Health on Thursday, and ended their week by visiting Save-A-Pet.

Here's a video of their visit to the Gelvan Frail Care Centre:

“The whole week has been a Mandela week at the Blu, we’ve started with the elderly, visited teenagers, children at the Hospice, we spent some time with PE Mental Health and ending off our week we are at Save-A-Pet,” said Lesley Geyer, Marketing Manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Port Elizabeth.

The Radisson Blu team was accompanied by other local business and community members that volunteered to help with the animals and brought donations of dog and cat food as well as dog treats and shampoos to clean them.

“We thought it was important to encapsulate the heart of Madiba and spend time with everybody, so ending off with the animals was just ideal,” said Lesley.

Save-A-Pet has more than 200 animals in their shelter; each looking for a place to call their forever home. To treat the animals, the staff at the Radisson Blu and other volunteers gave them treats, took them on walks and washed them.

“Today, the Radisson Blu Hotel has washed, walked and treated the animals at Save-A-Pet. Ending off the week by spending time with the animals is very important to us.”
