Teen who stabbed and killed his father released into relative's custody

A 17-year-old accused of stabbing his 35-year-old father to death briefly appeared before the Elliotdale Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

"He was not asked to plead. The case against the accused was postponed to Thursday, 23 August 2018, for legal aid representation," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The accused was warned and released to the care of the relative.

"The identity of the accused is withheld as he is a minor."

The teen was arrested by Elliotdale police on Thursday.

"It is alleged that the father put the saddle of his horse in the room of the suspect at their home which is Cwebe Village, Elliotdale," said Captain Manatha.

"The suspect did not like what was done by his father and asked why he put the saddle in his room.

"The suspect stabbed his father on his upper body on Wednesday, at about 11:55. The father was rushed to Madwaleni Hospital, Elliotdale where he passed away."

The identity of the deceased was still being withheld as some relatives who are out of the Eastern Cape province are still being informed of his murder.
