More houses handed over to beneficiaries in Thembalethu in UISP project

Up until now, a total of 99 families have had the great joy of moving into their own homes in Phase 2 of the UISP project in Thembalethu, George.

"This project  forms part of the Thembalethu: Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme (UISP)," described George Municipality, Debra Sauer.

"The contractor Lawula and Marnol JV (Joint Venture) have finished Phase 1 of the project earlier this year and commenced with Phase 2 on the 19th January 2018, where 250 top structures were awarded to them with the completion date being the 31st December 2018.

"A total of 250 houses will be built in this phase. The cost of a serviced property (with all municipal services) amounts to R43 000 and the top structures R111 000."

Sauer added that the Enhanced People’s Housing Process (EPHP) Housing Programme was implemented in this project, which added a lot more value to the project because the participants were also given the opportunity to have a say in the final product that was delivered to them.

"Phase 1 of the UISP commenced on  27th Febraury 2017 and and was completed on 30th April 2018. A total of 150 houses have been built and handed over."
