Suspect expected in court after Dutywa family found hacked to death
Update: Dutywa police arrested a 22-year-old man, who has since been charged with the murders of three family members over the weekend.
"The suspect was arrested on Sunday at Nqabane Village, Dutywa," explained police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.
"The suspect is due to appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Tuesday on three charges of murder."
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, has commended the Dutywa Police detectives for their swift actions in tracing and arresting the suspect.
Dutywa police are investigating murders of three family members over the weekend.
"It is alleged that Dutywa police were informed by community members that a family of three were murdered on the night of Friday 21-Saturday 22 September 2018 at their shop, which is at Sirhosheni Locality, Nqabane Village, Dutywa," described police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.
"The deceased were a 49-year-old man, 40-year-old woman and their eight-year-old daughter.
"It looked like they were attacked with bush knife/knives."
Capt Manatha said it is not clear, at this point in time, how did the community members found out about the murders of the family.
"The motive for the murders is also not yet known at this point in time," he added.
"Dutywa police are appealing to anyone with information about these murders to kindly contact Dutywa police at 047 489 1333 or Crime Stop 08600 10111.
"The identities of the deceased will be released once their next of kin have been officially informed of their murders."
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, condemned the cold blooded murders of the deceased.
He vowed that police will leave no stone unturned and will work around the clock to trace the suspect/s.
