22 years behind bars for Uitenhage man convicted of raping 12-year-old

Conserted efforts by dedicated  members from the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Uitenhage, in collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority, proved to be effective on Monday when an accused was sentenced effectively to 22-years each on two counts of rape.    

"Gert Williams, 52-years-old, was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment by the Uitenhage Regional Court on Monday, for raping a 12-year-old victim twice during 2016 in Kamesh," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart. 

"The accused was arrested by detectives soon after the cases were opened and Williams remained in custody for the duration of the trial.

"Williams was found guilty in November 2017. 

"He was sentenced effectively to 22-years imprisonment each on the two counts of rape. The sentencing will run concurrently."

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, welcomed the sentencing and commended the team for their comprehensive work which led to the effective conviction and sentencing by the Uitenhage Regional Court.
