Uitenhage FCS unit secures sentences for men, who raped teens

Detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Uitenhage ensured that two rapists were sentenced effectively after they were found guilty of raping two teenagers in two separate incidents.

Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said that in the first case, Sputa Thandoxolo, aged 38, was found guilty and sentenced to 18-years imprisonment by the Uitenhage Regional Court on Monday for the rape of a 14-year-old girl on 25 April 2015.

"According to testimony, the victim was sent by her grandmother to a shop in Kwanobuhle on 25 April 2015.

"Underway to the shop, the accused took the victim under false pretences to his house in Kwanobuhle where he raped her whilst playing loud music," she added.

"The victim managed to free herself and report a case of rape at SAPS Kwanobuhle and the accused was arrested the same day, 25 April 2015."

Another rapist gets lengthy jail sentence

Capt Swart said that in a second rape case, Zweni Siyabulela, 32-years-old, was found guilty and also sentenced effectively by the Uitenhage Regional Court on Monday, on a charge of rape.

"Siyabulela raped an 18-year-old victim on 19 March 2018 at a premise in Kwanobuhle. He was arrested on 26 March 2018 and he was sentenced to 10-years imprisonment for the rape of the 18-year-old woman," she described.

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, has welcomed the sentences and commended the detectives from FCS for their comprehensive work which led to the convictions and effective sentencing by the Uitenhage Regional Court.
