Truck driver busted near Paterson with dagga worth R400 000

A 58-year-old truck driver is expected in court after he was arrested near Paterson for dealing in dagga and for attempting to bribe the arresting officers.

"This followed after a truck was stopped by Paterson police at 13:00 on Wednesday on the N10, about 15 kilometres from Paterson," said police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.

"When the truck was searched, a large bag containing 40 kilograms of dagga was found and confiscated."

The 58-year-old truck driver attempted to bribe the arresting officers with R5 000.

Attempted bribery charge added

He was arrested for dealing in dagga and attempted bribery.

"The street value of the dagga is estimated to be about R400 000," Captain Beetge said.

"He will be appearing before the Alexandria Magistrates Court on Thursday to face the charges against him."
