Port Alfred police appeal for leads after two suspects rob gun store

Police in Port Alfred are appealing to the public for assistance with information that can help them solve a case where a local gun store was robbed by two suspects on Thursday morning.

"At about 11:00, one male suspect approached a firearm dealer store where the owner’s daughter was alone," described police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"He posed as a customer wanting to purchase an item of clothing and left it on the counter.

"He then walked outside and came back with another man, who showed her a firearm and she was asked for the keys to the safe."

Capt Govender said that they took the keys from the till and opened the safe.

"They then took a camo bag from the store and put several shotguns; rifles and handguns inside.

"They then left her in the strong room and closed it," she added.

"They then left the store on foot."

Suspects fled with victim's phone as well as ammunition

Capt Govender said that the victim’s cellphone was taken as well as different types of ammunition.

She said that one suspect is estimated to be in his 50’s and was dressed in a white shirt black tie and formal pants and a peak cap he was fair in complexion.

"The other suspect was slender tall with black jersey an black track pants and a estimated to be in his late twenties."

Capt Govender said that it was the older, neatly-dressed suspect, who had a firearm.

"Two other assistants, who were away from the store contacted the owner and the police," she said.

"A case of aggravated robbery is under investigation. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
