Tsomo man jailed for 18 years for raping 7-year-old girl

The Tsomo Regional Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced a 37-year-old man, Bulelani Mhlahlo, to 18 years imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old girl.

"It is alleged that the mother of the victim identified something from her daughter.

"She started to question her and the young girl broke the silence that she was raped by the accused on 21 March 2015 at about 19h00," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"She was raped at the home of the accused at Madopholweni Locality, Sokapase Village, Ngqamakhwe."

Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigated the case.

"The accused was traced and arrested."

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, has welcome the sentence handed to the accused. 

He also commended the investigating officer for properly and professionally investigating the case.
