Finding the Woman Within – local businesswoman’s book aims to inspire women everywhere

It was a full-house in the GFI Art Gallery in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday evening, as local businesswoman, Nosipho Siwisa-Damasane, launched her first book – Finding the Woman Within – at the start of her national book tour.

Born and raised in Peddie, Nosipho is the current Chairman of the Richards Bay Coal Terminal and travels the world in her career as an award-winning CEO and logistics authority.

Nosipho gave clarity about the content of her book and what inspired her to write it.

“One thing that will come through when you read the book, is that I have always remained grounded,” said Nosipho.

In the book, Nosipho tells her real life experiences in corporate South Africa, and focuses on the pros and cons of the corporate world.

Nosipho explains that life has many ups and downs.

Despite being a teen mother, Nosipho fought long and hard to reach the level of success she has attained. She became the first woman in history to be a Port Manager, not only in South Africa, but across the globe.

“Though my book is titled ‘Finding the Woman Within’, it’s not a women-only book. I think we can make men understand a little more about us,” explained Nosipho.

“When I took the job of Port Manager, the first thing I told myself was that I am going to stay in this industry. I am going to learn everything there is about it, and I am going to brave it and stay on until the industry respects me.”

Though the working world was not always great, Nosipho said she chose to stay with it and it led to a better place for her in the end.

“So, sometimes when it gets dark, you must never give up because it might just lead you to a new beginning.”

Nosipho’s book, Finding the Woman Within, is available at Fogarty’s Book Shop in Walmer Park,Port Elizabeth, and can be bought online at www.Amazon.com.
