Condolences pour in after OR Tambo District Mayor loses two sons in accident

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister, Zweli Mkhize, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the OR Tambo District Municipality Mayor, Nomakhosazana Meth, on the tragic death of her two sons.

Meth’s sons passed away in a car crash after celebrating their matriculation pass at the weekend.

“Losing one’s child is a devastating experience. We can’t even comprehend the pain of such a double loss that the mayor has suffered.

“What makes it even more tragic is that by all accounts, these young people were at the cusp of their adult life and therefore stood to play a role in our country. This indeed is a tragic loss to all of us,” said the Minister.

The crash comes as the festive season draws to a close in the country, with several holidaymakers making their journeys back home.

ANC Eastern Cape leadership consoles Mayor

Meanwhile, African National Congress (ANC) Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, accompanied by ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Executive (PEC) Members, Stella Ndabeni Abrahams, Mawezz Asive Tikana, and OR Tambo Regional Task Team members, Chris Hani Regional Executive Committee leadership, OR Tambo councillors and KSD leadership paid a visit to Mayor Meth's home.

The party said that it learnt with shock and sadness of the tragic passing of the Mayor's sons.

"Cde Meth's two sons died tragically in car on Friday night (4th January 2019) around Mthatha," the ANC said.

"It is indeed a great loss for the family to lose two adult children who just finished their Matric and were going to be a source of inspiration not only to the family but to our country.

"Words cannot adequately express the pain of losing such a young family members.Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time and we wish the Lord give Cde Nomakhosaza Meth strength.

"We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to family.May their souls rest in peace."
