Nine suspects including woman busted for drug dealing in Port Elizabeth

A multi-disciplinary approach aimed at tackling drug dealing in the Mount Road SAPS policing cluster in Port Elizabeth is yielding positive results, police said.

"In the last 12 hours, nine people were arrested on drug related cases in the Port Elizabeth area," described police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"The National Intervention Unit (NIU) deployed to focus on gang and drug activities in the Northern Areas is also ensuring that a zero tolerance against drugs is maintained."

She said that on Tuesday, the NIU members were doing stop and search operations at suspected drug posts in the Northern areas.

"A 35-year-old female was arrested at a house in Bosman street in possession of 30 mandrax tablets, tik and five stilpain tablets. She was arrested and detained on a charge of dealing in drugs."

Port Elizabeth police commended for efforts to address drug dealing

Col Naidu said that the other suspects were arrested with quantities of tik and cocaine which was found in their possession during routine stop and search.

Acting Commander of Mount Road SAPS Cluster, Brigadier Andrew Louw, appreciated the continuous efforts by the police in curtailing the movement of drug traders locally.

"We will constantly be in the faces of these drug lords. The use of drugs and drug trafficking is a barrier to a peaceful, secure and healthy society,’ added Brig Louw.
