Humansdorp police investigating how toddler drowned at sewage plant

Humansdorp police on Tuesday opened an inquest docket for investigation after 3-year-old boy drowned at the KwaNomzano Waste Water Treatment Works, in Humansdorp, on Monday.

"It is alleged that two kids, from a nearby informal settlement, found their way through a hole in the fence of the sewerage plant," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"One of the children, a 3-year-old, fell into the sewerage and drowned."

Capt Swart said that one of the children, alerted local parents, who then phoned Humansdorp police.

Humansdorp police recover toddler's body

She said that the body of the 3-year-old was recovered.

He was declared dead by paramedics who attended the scene.

Capt Swart said that the name of the name of the child will only be released after all his next have been informed.
