Teen arrested for fatal stabbing in Despatch
An 18-year-old male suspect is expected in court in Uitenhage on Tuesday after he was arrested over the weekend following a fatal stabbing in Despatch.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, Detectives from the South African Police Service in Despatch in conjunction, with detectives from the Uitenhage Cluster Operational Command Centre, arrested the suspect after a manhunt was launched.
"The suspect allegedly fatally stabbed a 25-year-old male in the early hours of Sunday morning in Albatros Street, Reservoir Hills, Despatch," she said.
"Community Sector patrollers alerted the police at 03:10, in the morning, as they were busy with patrols in the area, they discovered the body of a male (with a stab wound) lying in the street."
'Motive for fatal stabbing in Despatch unknown'
Despatch SAPS detectives followed up on information at 07:30 and apprehended an 18-year-old male suspect on a charge of murder.
"The motive for the murder is unclear at this stage.
"The name of the deceased will be released after he was formally identified," Capt Swart.
"The 18-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Tuesday."
Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brig Ronald Koll, praised the team for their conserted efforts and the speedily arrest.
