Police are investigating a case of murder following "the brutal and senseless" killing of a Ngcobo woman in front of her 11-month-old baby on Tuesday.

"The incident took place at Msawawa Location in the Manzana Admin Area at Ngcobo," said police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni.

"It is alleged that the husband of the deceased, who works away from the Eastern Cape, contacted the deceased's sister, who does not live far from the home to check on his wife and child as he could not reach her tepephonically.

"On arrival at the home of her sister, she found her lying in a pool of blood and the 11-month-old child wandering around the mother."
