Hunt continues for East London soccer boss' killers, motive remains a mystery

A manhunt continues in East London for gunmen, who shot and a killed a local soccer boss and Tornado FC owner, Siphiwo "Mawawa" Nyobo. The gunmen wounded his driver and a bystander at Lennox Street next to North end Stadium Milner Estate, East London, over the weekend.

East London police are investigating murder and attempted murder cases following the fatal shooting of a 68-year-old Tornado FC owner, Siphiwo "Mawawa" Nyobo, who was gunned down outside the city's North End Stadium, at approximately 16:30, on Saturday.

"It is alledged that the deceased was fatally shot in the upper body while the person, believed to be his driver, was also shot in the upper body," said police spokesperson, Capt Hazel Mqala.

"Another bystander was also shot on the lower body. The two were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention."

Motive for murder of Tornado FC owner, Siphiwo "Mawawa" Nyobo unknown

"The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and police will not speculate," Capt Mqala said.

"Murder and Attempted Murder cases have been opened. No arrest has been made at the moment."

She said that police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact East London Police Station on 043 707 0600.

"Information can also be shared on SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Crime Line 32211 or the nearest police station. All information will be treated with strictest confidentiality and callers can remain anonymous if they chose to."
