24-year-old Butterworth man arrested for allegedly raping 6-year-old niece

Butterworth police arrested a 24-year-old man for the alleged rape of his six-year-old niece on Sunday.

He was arrested at Zangwa Village, Butterworth, according to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"It is alleged that the suspect raped the victim on Saturday, at about 15:00, at Zangwa Village, Butterworth," he described.

"It is not clear if the alleged rape took place at the home of the suspect or of the victim.

"Butterworth Police acted swiftly once the case was registered."

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, condemned the alleged rape of the six-year-old toddler by a person, who was supposed to protect her.

He congratulated Butterworth Police for rapid response in tracing and arresting the perpetrator.

The suspect will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a rape charge.
