24 year-old Centane man due in court for murder

A 24 year-old Centane man is expected to appear before the Centane Magistrate Court on Monday, in connection with the murder of Zuzeka Gxoyi, aged 48, who was shot at her home on Thursday at Sisonke Township, Centane.

According to the police, the deceased was with a male friend at their homestead in Sisonke Township, at about 11:00, when a man kicked the door wide open and shot the deceased.

“The suspect shot the deceased on her upper body and then left the scene, he was chased by the man who was with the deceased and the suspect fired some shots in the direction of the man who was chasing him and the chaser ran for his life,” described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the deceased was taken to Butterworth hospital with a private car where she died.

However, Centane Police detectives worked around the clock and had a breakthrough when they arrested the suspect on Friday in Centane – however the firearm, which was allegedly used in the murder, is yet to be recovered.

Acting Butterworth SAPS Cluster Commander Colonel Sipho Hokwana praised Centane police detectives for their swift actions in bringing the suspect to book.
