Duo busted with illegal firearm, ammo in Zwelitsha after police car chase

Armed suspects sped off after being stopped by Zwelitsha police leading to chase

King Williams Town -  Two male suspects, aged 25 and 35 years, from Ndevana were arrested at Zwelitsha, outside King Williams Town, on Tuesday night for illegal firearm and ammunition possession.

"The arrest comes after Police chased a suspicious vehicle in Zone 9 and managed to stop the vehicle," described police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"It is alleged that police officers, during their patrol, spotted a suspicious vehicle and when they pulled it over, it drove off and the police chased it."

She said that they called for back-up from the K9 Unit and the Flying Squad and they came to assist.

"They all managed to corner the vehicle in question finding the two suspects inside and immediately arrested them."

Capt Mawisa said that upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered an unlicensed firearm with a serial number filed off and a sword.

Zwelitsha police officers commended or apprehending suspects

"These suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dangerous weapon," she added.

"They will appear at Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court on Thursday."

King William's Town Acting Cluster Commander, Colonel Nomvuyo Mrwebi, commended the members for their enthusiastic strategies in fighting crime in their policing precinct.

She encouraged them to be always vigilant when they are patrolling the streets.
