Controlled blasting on the R72 between Birah River and Openshaw Village

East London - The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) would like to notify travellers that controlled blasting is scheduled to take place on the R72 Section 3 (KM49.24) to Section 4 (KM16.0) between Birah River and Openshaw Village, tomorrow, Saturday, 11 May 2019 from 7am until 12pm.

The road will be closed at the Birah bridge and the Peddie intersection for the full duration.

Vehicles travelling from East London to Port Alfred will be diverted to the N2 at the Peddie turn off.

Motorists travelling from Port Alfred/Port Elizabeth are also advised to use the N2 (or Port Alfred to Grahamstown then further on the N2) as they will only be able to go as far as the Birah River on the R72 were they will be stopped.

“Motorists are asked to use caution when making use of the road,” Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region Manager said.
