Suspects seen randomly shooting in Qumbu before abandoning truck and fleeing

Police recovered an R5 rifle and drugs from abandoned truck

Mthatha - Mthatha police are investigating an incident where two suspects were allegedly seen shooting randomly before escaping arrest over the weekend.

"A 1 Toner truck was found abandoned after it was reported that its two occupants were shooting randomly in Qumbu town on Saturday, at about 19h00," described police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena.

"TRT members made chase, but the suspects alighted from the truck and escaped the arrest on foot."

She said that upon searching the truck, an R5 Rifle with 21 rounds of ammunition, 68 Boss tablets, 102 sachets of Tik, 1 cellphone and a pair of flops were found.

"The firearm appeared to have Mthatha Cas of 2015," Capt Koena said.

"The truck was confiscated for further investigation.

"The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing."

Acting Mthatha SAPS Cluster Commander Brigadier Mandlakhe Twala commended these members.
