Wanted Port Elizabeth gang member arrested following tip-off

Port Elizabeth - A wanted gang member is expected in court on Monday after he was arrested by Port Elizabeth police over the weekend following a tip-off.

"On Saturday, at about 08:15, police officers of the Gelvandale Crime Prevention unit received information about a wanted gang member at a house in Blesbok Street in Helenvale, Port Elizabeth," explained police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"On immediately following up on the information, members proceeded to a shack at the back of the house and found Jerome Prince aka Rompa (22) inside the shack.

"He is wanted on a warrant of arrest for an attempted murder case allegedly committed in October 2018 in Helenvale."

She said that the complainant, 21 years old was standing on top of the roof of his house in Chamois Street in Helenvale  when Prince, who was in the street started firing at him.

"No injuries sustained."

Col Naiu said that detectives are busy probing possible links to other cases.

"He will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of attempted murder."
