Windy, wet weather forecast for this weekend

Port Elizabeth -Gale force winds and rain is expected this weekend, the Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Service said on Thursday.

According to Garth Sampson, the SA Weather Service's Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape; "On Friday, a cold front passes over the Western Cape, with strong bergwind flow over the Eastern Cape region. Maximum temperatures will rise to the mid 20’s."  

He warned that strong to gale force winds with gusts in excess of 85km/h expected over the western interior of the province.

On Saturday, the cold front passes over the southern parts of the Eastern Cape, with gale force westerly winds over the coastal belt and adjacent interior and is expected to reach Port Elizabeth at around lunch time.

"The freezing level is too high for snow to occur.  Rainfall is expected in the form of light showers,  5mm or less over areas south of Graaff-Reinet and the Winterberg," Sampson said.

"Gale force winds along the coast between Storms River and Port Alfred."

On Sunday, the weather will clear from the west in the afternoon.
