Five netted after high speed police car chase in Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth - A high speed police car chase in Port Elizabeth resulted in the arrest of five suspects for the possession of ammunition and over a case of not paying for fuel at garages.

"On Tuesday, at about 12:00, five suspects aged between 25 and 33 were arrested after a high speed chase on the freeway in Port Elizabeth," described Capt Sandra Janse Van Rensburg.

"SAPS members were busy with patrols in Commercial Road, Sidwell, Port Elizabeth, when they noticed a Toyota Hilux LDV, grey in colour with five occupants, speeding and failing to stop at a red light."

She said that the members called for back-up and a high speed chase ensued.

"They managed to stop the vehicle on the M4 close to the North End prison and upon searching the vehicle the members recovered four(4) rounds of ammunition," said Capt Janse Van Rensburg.

"It was further established that the vehicle filled petrol on Monday and Tuesday without paying for it."

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges of theft and illegal possession of ammunition.
