Kwaaiman - Three men, aged between 18 and 20, were arrested by Kwaaiman police after they allegedly robbed a spaza shop at Notintwa locality Ngcwanguba A/A in Mqanduli on Wednesday, at about 08h30.

"It is alleged that the suspects held a 45-year-old foreign national at gunpoint demanding money and a cellphone," said police spokeperson, Captain Dineo Koena.

"They fled with an undisclosed amount of money and the victim's cellphone.

"Alarm was raised to police, who made chase with the assistance of the community and they were cornered at Notintwa forest."

Capt Koena said that two 9mm pistols with seven rounds of ammunition, all the robbed money, airtime, cigarettes and a cellphone were recovered.

She said that the trio will appear before the Kwaaiman Periodical Court soon facing charges of business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.

"We are after all those that are always terrorising our communities. We are doing whatever it takes to bring back our communities trust," said Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mandlakhe Twala, whilst applauding Kwaaiman community and the police.

"Working together with our people can always assist in apprehending the perpetrators of crime within no time just like we did today."
